the volume of the notes being played is very low

and I have to generate tremendous pressure to get a decent volume, which I can’t sustain. I haven’t figured out whether the volume issue is with the NuRad, either its programming or physical playing, or GarageBand.

Most NuRAD/NuEVI players prefer the amount of breath pressure required to be very low.(so as to not at all really tax your lungs) .. It offers you to have extreme ease of control over the dynamics (volume) of the sound you are playing while not taxing your lungs really at all. Investigate the breath sensor adjust parameter. It allows you to set the threshold of sound initiation. The factory default is typically set pretty decent. But each player prefers to set this where they like. Some players like it to require more pressure. It seems most like very little pressure. If it is not the breath adjust setting that is causing your challenge, it must be a configuration within Garage band that may be the issue.
